The international teleworker route is not a generic remote-work visa. The law distinguishes who you work for, how you work and what evidence must support the application.

The basic framework

Spain's international teleworker regime sits within Law 14/2013. It is designed for third-country nationals who want to live in Spain while carrying out remote employment or professional activity linked principally to businesses outside Spain.

For employees, the statutory framework is built around employment with companies outside Spain. For professionals, limited professional activity for a company located in Spain may be possible within the statutory limits.

The evidence matters

The law also requires evidence relating to the foreign company's existing activity, the previous relationship between the applicant and the company or clients, and the ability to perform the activity remotely.

Visa and residence are not identical

The legal framework distinguishes between the visa route and the residence authorization available to eligible applicants who are regularly in Spain. The residence authorization can have a longer initial validity than the visa, subject to the specific circumstances and continuing requirements.

Why OleXpat does not reduce this to a checklist

Because the same legal route can produce very different document strategies.

Employment, self-employment, Social Security, family members, country of origin and the documents available can all change the analysis.
